If you’re a Tesla fan, or a geek next door like me, you’ve probably seen the cool first-person drone footage from Giga Berlin earlier this year. Drone footage allows for a lot of great maneuvering in tight and confined spaces and gives reality a surreal look that no human or human-held camera can capture.
Want to make your own FPV videos like this one? You’re in luck now. While I don’t think Tesla will let most of us fly a drone in their factory, you can make your own cool videos using pure electric aerial technology with DJI’s latest easy-to-use FPV drone: the DJI Avata.
According to a recent DJI press release, Avata is a revolutionary new drone that provides an unparalleled immersive flight experience. DJI’s Avata introduces a new paradigm for FPV drone flying, allowing any pilot to race through the air and feel the incredible performance, agility and ease of control of this extraordinary aircraft. DJI’s Avata combined with the innovative DJI Goggles 2 and the intuitive DJI Motion Controller provides a flight experience previously unimaginable.
“DJI Avata was built to awaken the desire to fly in everyone, with immersive flight technology that allows everyone to explore the almost out-of-body experience of FPV flight,” said Ferdinand Wolf, DJI Creative Director. “The DJI Avata is breathtaking to fly, even for the novice pilot, and features enhanced safety features that give anyone the freedom to try creative aerial maneuvers. Coupled with DJI Goggles 2 and DJI Motion Controller, DJI Avata seems to ride with the wind. Whether you’re flying for fun, making great clips for social media or dazzling audiences in a production studio, DJI Avata will show you why its immersive flight experience will draw you into a new world of takeoff possibilities.”
DJI Avata opens up a new creative method for both beginners and experts. Among racing drones, Avata is unique with its compact design and low body weight of only 410 grams. It is also equipped with aerodynamic propeller covers for safety while providing a fast and agile flight experience. In addition, the powerful stabilized camera has a 1/1.7” CMOS sensor with 48 million effective pixels that can capture video at 4K/60fps or 2.7K/50/60//100/120 fps, giving creators a new shooting tool with high resolution. quality videos smoothly. With a flight time of up to 18 minutes per charge, it provides an exciting ride every time.
DJI Avata can be controlled using DJI Goggles 2, DJI Motion Controller or existing DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 and DJI FPV Goggles V2. DJI Avata is the only drone on the market that can hover like a traditional drone, accelerate like a racer, zoom in and out of tight spots, and stop in a fraction of a second. If the DJI Avata is pushed beyond its limits and lands upside down, Turtle Mode allows it to flip over and take off again, making it one of the most versatile drones available.
DJI Avata’s flight control and stabilization technologies work together to make it the perfect drone for anyone, regardless of experience level, who wants to have fun while capturing amazing videos.
DJI FPV Goggles
DJI Goggles 2 is our next-generation video headset that provides more comfortable and lighter wear with impressive FPV image quality. The micro-OLED screen is brighter than ever, and people who usually wear glasses won’t need to with these glasses. They’re also paired with a DJI motion controller for easy one-handed use in a variety of scenarios while still capturing great footage.
DJI Avata and DJI Goggles 2 use DJI O3+ transmission, the most powerful and reliable technology for precise control, ultra-low latency and high-definition video at 1080p/100fps with H.265 decoding. It has a low transmission delay of approximately 30 milliseconds, a long transmission distance of 10 kilometers, automatic dual frequency switching, a high transmission speed of 50 Mbps, and state-of-the-art anti-interference techniques to ensure constant power. DJI Goggles 2 also have a wireless streaming feature that allows you to watch live streaming from your phone or computer on the goggles screen for an immersive viewing experience.
DJI motion controller
The DJI Motion Controller is a newly designed flight control device that allows the pilot to fly spectacular maneuvers with just one hand. The system is very intuitive and easy to use even for beginners. With this controller, you can fly in continuous smooth motions, close to the ground, around obstacles and through narrow spaces into open areas.
Improved 4K display system with super stabilization
DJI Avata’s 1/1.7-inch 48MP Photo CMOS sensor with f/2.8 aperture and ultra-wide-angle lens with up to 155° viewing angle surpasses any FPV racer imaging system – Excellent 1/1.7-inch 48MP Photo CMOS sensor with f/2 aperture, 8 and an ultra-wide-angle lens with a field of view of up to 155 degrees, as well as slow-motion video at 2.7K/100 frames per second (fps). The wider perspective enables immersive aerial photos and videos at 4k/60 fps, as well as slow-motion footage at 2.7K/100 fps thanks to the D-Cinelike color mode used by DJI Avata.
DJI Avata features two cutting-edge image stabilization systems to ensure your video is smooth and stable during high-pressure aerial movements. DJI RockSteady eliminates all image shake, while DJI HorizonSteady keeps the image level at the real level. All this data is sent to the 20GB of internal storage, allowing you to be more creative and spontaneous when the opportunity for a unique photo arises, even without a microSD card inserted in the unit.
DJI Avata Propeller Guards protect the body of your drone, making it more durable and less likely to be damaged in a collision. With this added safety feature, you can fly with confidence that your drone will withstand minor impacts and even right itself if it flips over.
DJI Avata’s emergency brake and hover feature is available in all flight modes, stopping the drone and hovering whenever necessary during flight. A safe return to home button automatically returns the drone to its original starting point with a single push. If transmission is lost or the battery is critically discharged, the fail-safe feature will bring the drone home safely.
DJI Avata is equipped with an infrared sensing system and a downward Vision dual-camera system. They help with the drone’s current position, accurate hovering, indoor flight or other areas where satellite navigation is not available, and identify inappropriate landing sites such as bodies of water. DJI Avata and DJI Goggles 2 also display the Home Point from where the drone took off when used with the goggles to stay oriented during flight. The AR view adds an additional sense of orientation that helps the pilot identify the immediate surroundings within seconds.
Like other recent DJI drones, it also has features to prevent drone pilots from doing dangerous things like flying too close to airports and other restricted areas without permission. It also has multiple flight modes and even a virtual flight simulator to help you learn how to fly your drone safely.
DJI Avata can be purchased now at store.dji.com and at many authorized resellers in various configurations. Ideal for those who already have a compatible model to control and view the drone, the stand-alone version of the DJIAvata retails for $629 without a remote, motion controller or glasses. The DJI Avata Pro-View Combo costs $1,388 and includes the DJI Avata, DJI Goggles 2, and DJI Motion Controller. The DJIAvata Fly Smart Combo is available for $1168 and includes the same items as the previous model. The DJIavata Fly More Kit costs $279, but does not include batteries or a charging hub.
